I’m always hunting down money saving tips, espeically when it involves DIY projects or ways to utilize basic products around the house. Not only does it help me simplify my life, it helps cut down on cost. My latest find in the money saving department has been homemade whitening mouth wash. I’ve been buying it for years. The cheapest option I found (or so I thought…) was to buy a generic bottleĀ that was twice the size of most brands. It cost about $5 per bottle and we had to replace it every other month. Last week, while reading a blog, I read a short tid bit on how Hydrogen Peroxide could be used as a mouth wash. So curiosity killed the cat and I had to investigate.
Not only did it work better, but the savings made it worth the effort. A normal bottle runs about $1 at the local dollar store in our area. You could probably get it a lot cheaper with coupons! Instead of paying roughly $60 a year on mouth wash, I’ll be spending less than $10!
All this to say, there are recommendations on using only 1% to 3% in your mouth. As with anything, do your own research to make sure you pursue the best option for your family.
For the mouthwash:
2 part peroxide and 1 part water. Swish for 1 minute and rinse with water.
