I signed up with my first real blog in 2007. Ever since then, I’ve been creating blogs, web sites and learning more about the online world. When I started this website, I decided to try WordPress for a number of reasons. Over the years, I’ve learned a few in and outs of blogging that have helped me to learn more about networking and creating an online income.
Here are my Top 8 Blogging Tips:
1) Find a unique domain name for your website: If you are into niche marketing, you may want to spend a few days honing in on which keyword that you will be using. If you are hoping to target a specific audience, for example “Moms”, then you would want a domain name with that keyword: momsfavorite.com, etc. Some domain names will cost you as little as $10 while others could easily cost you up to $100 or more.
2) Update Your Content Regularly: Many people get caught up in reading other blogs and forget to update their own. If you are hoping to grow a large readership, you should update your blog at least every other day. Finding the time to blog every single day is not realistic, so learn how to draft your posts so that you can write them ahead of time. It’s a simple and convenient way to stay on top of blog updates!
3) Join A Network: When you start blogging, it’s important to network with other bloggers. Not only does it help establish your readership, but it helps you to stay up to date with the latest in blogging. Plus, you will have the chance to forge new friendships and working business relations. Having friends in the same boat will help you to stay motivated as well.
4) Choose A Blog Host: Many people are confused when it comes to finding a blog host. Personally, I’ve used several over the years to experiment and learn which each host had to offer. Out of all of them, my favorite has been WordPress and Blogger. Both have their benefits and downsides, so do a little research to figure out which will be the best option for you.
5) Offer E-mail Updates: Many people want to keep up with your blog, but they may not always have the time. E-mail updates allow you to give your readers a chance to keep an eye on your latest posts. Chances are they will skim over post titles until they find one that catches their attention. There are many free e-mail programs that you can use for this purpose.
6) Engage Your Readers: Many times a blogger gets short sighted on what is important on their blog. Simply because it is easy to get excited with the latest and greatest topics going on at other web sites. To avoid getting tunnel visions, remember to engage your readers. This will help you to build relationships and friendships online. A few ways to do this is by asking questions at the end of your post, offering reader polls on subjects and even offering your e-mail so that they can get in touch with you.
7) Join Social Networking: Another simple way to engage your readers is to participate in social networking through sites such as Twitter or Facebook. You can easily start discussion and participate in group discussions as well. It is a simple, yet highly effective way pursue other outlets for your readers.
Find Fresh Perspective: Whenever you feel burned out about your writing, take a break. Instead, request someone to share guest posts on your web site. That way both you and your readers can gain fresh new perspective. This is also a simple way to help other bloggers get started on their own two feet. Consider allowing new blog owners to guest post for you to help build their own readership.
