Time management is a hot topic. I love to read anything and everything related to it!
It’s easy to let my day get away from me, without accomplishing what I set out to do. After reading countless articles on web sites, blogs and magazines, I’ve decided to give batch/timed work slots a try. I think it will help me to stay more focused throughout the day. So here’s my goal:
1) Choose5 activities to accomplish and write them on my daily calendar.
Some people have a magic number of things they like to do each day. For me, I like having 3-5 main goals to accomplish. Anything more, and I fizzle out. Anything less, well I always feel like I didn’t get enough done.
2) Block off time slots for each activity.
I like to set aside certain times of the day for certain thins. For example, morning for quiet time & computer work. Afternoon for errands and chores, etc. This changes all the time, but that’s where I’m at for now.
3) Set a time for when I want these activities accomplished during the day.
My goal right now is to have all of my list done before my husband comes home. So I’ll set a time to have my lists and computer put away.
4) Use a timer to monitor when I need to wrap up a project and move on to the next thing.
Whenever I’ve used speed cleaning or speed work tactics in the past, it always helped me to stay on track. Plus, it’s a great motivator to spend less time browsing online or playing around on my phone when I should be workin!
5) Mark off each project as I finish them!!
If you are a compulsive list taker, then you know the sheer thrill of marking items off the “to do” list. If not, then…give it a try. You just might get addicted to the “mark off” adrenaline rush.
After I’ve tried this for a few days, I’ll compare my accomplishment against last week to see if it really helps.
